Together wit our Ukrainian Partner Eco Club Rivne and funded by EWS Sonnencent we are helping with a Water Treatment Plant project.

Shatsk is a village in Volyn Oblast , Ukraine. Population: 5,334 in 2021. It is a well-known resort and recreation center throughout Ukraine. It is located about 17 km from the border with Poland and about 11 km from the border with Belarus.

Project partners: Shatsk Village Council, Municipal Enterprise „Dobrobut“ – the only enterprise that belongs to critical infrastructure facilities, providing water supply and wastewater services to institutions and residents of the community, bears a significant financial burden in connection with the activities of treatment plants. In the absence of electricity, there is a threat of pumps being out of order
Svityaz is a unique lake in western Ukraine, the pearl of the Shatsk National Nature Park and the deepest lake in the country. It is known for its exceptionally clean, transparent water and sandy shores, which makes Svityaz a popular place for rest and recreation. The lake has an important environmental value, as it is part of the ecosystem of Polissya, and at the same time plays a significant role in the development of local tourism. The combination of natural silence, forest landscapes and clean water creates a special atmosphere, for which thousands of visitors from all over Ukraine and abroad come to Svityaz every year.
In 2021, new treatment plants were built, which will significantly improve the ecological condition of the region
This project is of great importance not only for the energy security of the Shatsk Vodokanal, but also for the stability of water supply in the entire region, which is experiencing daily challenges related to the war that has been going on in Ukraine for over 10 years. The war, which has caused unspeakable pain to our country, has presented us with new, even more difficult challenges. In addition to the destruction of infrastructure, economic difficulties and human losses, we have found ourselves on the verge of a threat to energy security, which, especially in the conditions of the last three years of full-scale invasion, has become an urgent problem not only for the Shatsk region, but also for the entire country.
The crisis, which has arisen due to constant rocket attacks and shelling, is particularly threatening for Ukraine’s critical infrastructure. Our energy system, which was already fragile, has become even more vulnerable, and the issue of energy security has become a matter of survival. The situation is especially important in the west of the country, in the regions located in close proximity to the border with Belarus.
The construction of a solar power plant on the territory of Shatsk Water Canal is our hope for uninterrupted water supply for thousands of people who live in fear of new missile strikes and attacks on energy infrastructure every day. This project will significantly reduce our dependence on traditional energy sources, reduce energy costs, and, most importantly, ensure sustainable water supply for local residents and neighboring communities.
We believe that during these terrible times in our lives, every gesture of support makes a huge difference. With your help, we will not only be able to make this project a reality, but we will also take a step towards creating a future in which we will be able not only to survive, but also to restore hope, to revive our country and our communities.
