As Part of the Clean Energy States Alliance Technology Innovation White Paper Bentham Paulos has published a report: „What States Need to Know about Plug-In Solar“.
It explains what plug in pv is, gives sample calculation for the US and heavily draws upon the Solar Power Europe Report.
You also find a „Plug-in Solar Simple Calculator“, a google sheet, with which you can calculate your own economics for your plug in solar system. It lacks some of the features of the European Calculatores (e.g. no simple location based data for radiation or sunshine hours, but you might consult this list and note the US is on average more sunny then Europe.)
